The Malawi Agricultural and Industrial Investment Corporation (MAIIC) Plc is a local development finance institution (DFI) incorporated in November 2018 under the Company’s Act of 2013. The company was established to bridge the long-term financing gap in Malawi and spearhead private sector development. MAIIC is a commercially oriented DFI set up to play a leading role in socio-economic development in the country.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following position:


Position Summary

The Business Analyst will be responsible for originating, developing, and leading the due diligence, approval and funding of financial intermediation projects as well as provide technical support and inputs to diverse areas of financial inclusion.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Identify and evaluate potential financial intermediation projects that align with the institution’s objectives and strategies in the Agriculture, Mining, Energy, ICT, and infrastructure sectors.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to assess the viability and potential impact of proposed projects.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to identify opportunities and develop project proposals.
  • Lead the due diligence process for potential projects and prepare comprehensive project proposals, including financial analysis, risk assessment, and evaluation of project feasibility.
  • Present project proposals to internal committees or external partners for approval.
  • Identify and address any issues or challenges that may arise during project execution.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to diverse areas of financial inclusion initiatives, such as microfinance, SME lending, and rural development.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop innovative solutions to promote financial inclusion and economic empowerment.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to financial intermediation and financial inclusion.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
  • Minimum of three years proven experience in a similar role in the financial services industry.
  • Proven experience in financial analysis, project management, and business development, preferably in the financial sector or development finance

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High proficiency in financial modelling techniques
  • Fluency with excel formulas and functions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of big data and data analytical systems to realise the importance of data-driven decisions over intuition driven decisions.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards applicable to the organisation
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail.
