Background

The Malawi Agricultural and Industrial Investment Corporation (MAIIC) Plc is a local development finance institution (DFI) incorporated in November 2018 under the Company’s Act of 2013. The company was established to bridge the long-term financing gap in Malawi and spearhead private sector development. MAIIC is a commercially oriented DFI set up to play a leading role in socio-economic development in the country.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following position:

LEGAL CLERK

Position Summary

The Legal Clerk will be responsible for providing support to the Legal Department in overseeing and optimizing the collateral pledged by clients to mitigate risk in financial transactions. The Legal Clerk will report directly to the Company Secretary/Head of Legal Services.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in the drafting and preparation of legal documents related to the creation and perfection of security interests, including mortgages, pledges and guarantees.
  • Assist in the implementation of the necessary steps to perfect security interests in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. This may include filing with relevant authorities, obtaining consents, and ensuring all requirements are met.
  • Assist in the registration process for security interests, liaising with government departments and ensuring all necessary documentation is submitted timely and accurately.
  • Maintain and update corporate records, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensuring timely endorsements of motor vehicles offered as security with the Road Traffic Directorate.
  • Manage the filing of necessary documents with relevant authorities.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of all perfected security interests, ensuring easy retrieval and reference when needed.

 Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Legal Studies.
  • Proven experience as a legal assistant in a financial institution or similar role .
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and document preparation.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.

 

PROCESS SERVER (TEMPORALY POSITION TENABLE IN BLANTYRE)

 

Position Summary

The process server will be responsible for providing support to the Legal

Department with locating, receiving, processing and serving clients and other

Stakeholders with various documents.

The process server will directly report to the Legal clerk.

Key responsibilities and Duties

  • Locating and serving legal documents
  • Ensuring that all receipts of payments are well kept for purposes of reconciliation
  • Maintaining accurate records of successful and unsuccessful delivery of documents
  • Verifying that documents were served by providing proof of service or an affidavit of service
  • Perform skip tracing and locate individuals/clients for service
  • Complete document filings in a timely and accurate manner

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate in Legal Studies.
  • Proven experience as a Process Server in a financial institution or similar role.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to serve documents
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of local laws and regulations
  • Flexibility to work outside normal office hours
