The Mega Farm project is a government initiative which is run by the Ministry of Agriculture through the Mega Farm Support Unit Department in partnership with the Malawi Agriculture and Industrial Corporation (MAIIC). The objective of the initiative is to transform the agricultural sector through commercial and increased production. The government supports large scale farmers bearing a minimum of 20 hectares with a loan facility of farming inputs at an affordable interest rate.
Since 2024, the initiative has supported over 1200 farmers across Malawi. Below are some of the projects that the Government has supported.
Jetto Myaba farm, Mzimba south, cultivated 50 hectares Maize
Gift Kadammanja, Dowa. Cultivated 82 Ha Maize
Wanga Nanthambwe, Mangochi, cultivated 26 HA Maize and 10 HA soybeans
Chikumbutso Kilembe. Balaka , cultivated 12 HA Rice
Demeter farm, Balaka, cultivating 600HA Beans
Demeter Farm – land preparation for winter cropping.
Lake Malawi Aquaculture. Pioneering cage farming in Salima
Chipala Investments Limited – Poultry Farming (commercial egg production) & Packaged eggs
